Application for Off-Campus ABE Assessment

COVID-19 update: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, VIU’s exam centre has canceled all in-person exams and assessments. The safety of our students, employees, and broader community continues to be the priority. All in-person exams will remain cancelled until Spring 2021 at the earliest. VIU’s exam centre remains open for remote student support.

At this time we have capacity to support remote proctoring for external institutions who have approved invigilation via Zoom.

Note: AEIS is not able to offer off-campus ABE Assessments at this time.  Please reach out to Academic and Career Preparation for information about next steps.

To request an off-campus assessment, you must be living outside the Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo, Duncan, Powell River) region.

In order to register for ABE courses you must first:

  • Find a suitable professional Test Supervisor.
  • Complete and submit the form below OR print this page, complete it and mail to us.
  • Pay the non-refundable $25 fee for an off-campus ABE assessment*. Call the cashier's office at 250-740-6236 to pay by credit card, giving your name and confirming payment for off-campus assessment.

*If payment is not received within 1 month, you will be asked to re-submit your off-campus request.

Once we have received payment, we will send the tests to your test supervisor and let you know that the package is on its way. The test supervisor will return the tests to us for marking and the ABE Student Success Advisor will contact you to discuss your results.

The assessment is for ABE Math and English courses only.

It is your responsibility to contact your test supervisor to arrange a time to write the assessment, and you are responsible for any additional fees charged by your test supervisor.
