What is VI Solutions?

Are you interested in applying what you are learning in class to a real-life business need? Are you interested in earning a cash prize for having developed one of the top solutions?

VIU's Centre for Experiential Learning is launching VI Solutions: a competition-style initiative that connects multi-disciplinary teams of students with local organizations and a faculty advisor, to solve an operational or business, opportunity or challenge. The top teams will present their solutions before a panel of judges from the business community at VIU's CREATE week in April 2020, and winners will be awarded a cash prize.

VI Solutions Summary of Opportunities and Challenges

  • Develop implementable solutions/concepts, marketing plan, recommendations of a pricing plan for a digital safety awareness product for business with easy to understand interface recommendations.
  • Examine, explore and recommend new grow-out tenure methodologies for geoduck clam farming to reduce mortality rate and increase harvest rates and profitability in aquaculture production.
  • Create, develop and provide sustainable business community support strategies for a leading car dealership / brand.
  • Design and develop a social innovation or social enterprise model that will house a community learning program, which will support a variety of learning modalities.
  • Seeking a new and fresh approach to finding ways of supporting harm reduction and people wanting to get out of the cycle of addiction.  Collate, review and analyze best practices for supporting pre-treatment and post-treatment to better determine effective models of service delivery.
  • Develop and draft baseline of processes and manual for the prevention treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) for emergency first responders.
  • Assist in planning future programs which directly impact climate change by redefining "waste" as "materials" for remanufacturing, as well as establishing a resource recovery program to enhance a circular economy.
  • Develop and recommend implementable recruitment/retention strategies for a community support services program working with individuals with diverse abilities. Seeking new ways to recruit support staff to help clients achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Creating, devising and developing new strategies for recruiting and retaining paid support staff dealing with individuals in crisis. New and effective strategies of outreach and engagement are critically needed.
  • Rejuvenate recruiting and retention strategies of volunteer resources for a community organization providing ares, historical, tourism and festival activities seeking to attract younger members and develop ways and means of enhancing connections.
  • Identify, create and develop new strategies for engaging younger audiences in the arts and in particular, contemporary dance.  Seeking new ideas for connecting through a variety of mediums with the objective of enhancing longer term engagement.
