New Printers and Photocopiers are Coming!

Following an extensive evaluation of VIU’s current print needs as well as a thorough print device analysis, the Managed Print Project Team has recommended implementation of a secure print job management system as well as the replacement of a number of end-of-life copiers and printers.

This recommendation is based on the rising cost of supplies and the increasing rate of repair for end-of-life copiers. It also addresses concerns regarding the reliability and security of dated technology.

When? Fall 2019

What's New?

The new devices represent the latest available technology, and University staff and students will see some exciting improvements and benefits, including:

  • Access to newer and more efficient technology;
  • A positive impact on the environment by reducing toner, paper and energy consumption.
  • Improved printing, copying, and scanning services via the PaperCut print accounting system, including:
    • Better accessibility to printing through the "Find-Me" virtual print queue;
    • Ability to track your printing and environmental impact;
    • Secure print release preventing unauthorized pick-up of sensitive or confidential prints;
    • A streamlined method of charging for copies and network print jobs;
    • Reduction of department print costs through the elimination of waste prints.

What Happens Next?

Given the size and complexity of the University, deployment will take a period of some weeks. Since a number of VIU's copiers and printers have reached end-of-life, Print Services will be in touch with administrative staff in each department to complete the installation as soon as possible.
