What kind of career events does the Career Studio and Centre for Experiential Learning facilitate?

"Co-Curricular Talks” are modelled after the Pecha Kucha style presentation with the focus on bringing together shared experiences both personal and professional. Co-Curricular Talks, similar to a Pecha Kucha depicts the notion of concise storytelling, but rather than the traditional 20 slides in 20 minutes style, presenters are challenged to cover 15 slides in a 5-6 minutes presentation.
The Career Studio supports CCR Talks through event sponsorship by facilitating connections between SLC leaders, alumni, and employers.

The Student Leadership Circle (SLC) aims to build and host professional development workshops for all VIU student leaders. SLC is dedicated to leadership development and the cultivation of collaboration between student leaders on campus. Each workshop is designed to target at least one relevant skill and/or VIU Graduate Attribute. The SLC provides an opportunity to equip students with tools that can be applied to their personal and professional lives.
The Career Studio supports SLC workshops through event sponsorships, and by facilitating connections between SLC organizers and employers interested in delivering a workshop. To inquire about more SLC workshop specifics, email SLC@viu.ca

Following the format of a traditional hiring fair, these networking fairs will connect students and alumni of various degree types with employers in their industry, and allow them to learn more about various local organizations and the career paths available to them.

These events take place several times a year for various VIU programs.
Labour Market Roundtables (LMRT) are a long-running event at VIU where students from various programs sit down with employers and ask them questions in a roundtable format. Students will move from table to table and learn what its like to work in the industry prior to graduation.
Employer seats at the roundtable events are limited and past participants are often emailed during Summer months to confirm their availability. If you are interested in participating in the LMRT events though and connecting with the students mentioned above, please email CEL@viu.ca
