Description

The Student Assistant (Fitness) Assisted with the supervision of weight room activities, as well developed tools and resources to help patrons navigate their way through a fitness program and through the weight room. They also helped revise and update health and wellness information for the VIU community.

Position Overview

The student will assist with the supervision of weight room activities, as well develop tools and resources to help patrons navigate their way through a fitness program and through the weight room. They will also help revise and update health and wellness information for the VIU community. There are likely to be projects associated with health and wellness. 

As part of the Athletics and Recreation team, the student will assist with the development of program information, implementation and delivery of recreation activities, maintenance of the facility, front end customer service, and other similar activities.

The student should possess knowledge of fitness equipment such as free weights, machines, cardio machines, and other supplemental equipment (eg. exercise balls).

Position Requirements

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary
  • A keen interest in working in an energetic and developmental environment is desired
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential
  • Fitness qualification are an asset, but are not required
  • Some background knowledge related to fitness, human movement, anatomy, and physiology would be beneficial 
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required
