The Faculty of Science and Technology is seeking a motivated student to be the first Let's Talk Science EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility) Coordinator for Vancouver Island University. The Let's Talk Science EDIA Coordinator will organize and deliver two full-day STEM learning events to remote Vancouver Island schools as part of the national Let's Talk Science (LTS) program to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and math. They will also promote collaboration with other LTS university sites and work in partnership with the VIU LTS Site Coordinator, to provide mutual support for ongoing LTS programming and the two remote community events.
Position Overview
The Faculty of Science and Technology is seeking a motivated student to be the first Let's Talk Science EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility) Coordinator for Vancouver Island University. The Let's Talk Science EDIA Coordinator will organize and deliver two full-day STEM learning events to remote Vancouver Island schools as part of the national Let's Talk Science (LTS) program to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and math. They will also promote collaboration with other LTS university sites and work in partnership with the VIU LTS Site Coordinator, to provide mutual support for ongoing LTS programming and the two remote community events.
Time Commitment: 6.5 hrs/week on average
Work Term: November 2023 - October 2024 (flexible)
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate will:
- Be registered at VIU in a Faculty of Science and Technology program
- Have a passion for science, and science outreach and education
- Have strong oral and written communication skills
- Have strong leadership skills
- Have outstanding interpersonal skills
- Have excellent planning and organizational skills
- Have strong experience with Internet applications and Microsoft Office Suite
- Be willing to travel for remote events and Let's Talk Science conferences (expenses covered by LTS)
