Ceramics Studio Assistant - Art and Design

Description

In this position, the work op student becomes intrinsically familiar with the recurring cycles of an active ceramic based art studio.

Position Requirements

The work op student will be exposed to and become familiar with general safety requirements in the ceramics studio. They will also learn liquid glaze making strategies, and how to recognize and ensure proper glaze viscosity or specific gravity of such glazes. The student will gain familiarity with digitally controlled kilns and how to correctly load and unload the units. 

The student will be responsible for weekly re-organization and control of related studios, including tidying of all ceramic equipment and preparation areas. Further duties may include clay reprocessing, where the student gains a greater understanding of studio clay bodies and how they are made. The student will also be responsible for supervision of studio areas during designated evening and weekend shifts.
