The Summer Learning Centre Assistant position provides opportunities for international students to practice their conversational skills and provide assistance to the Learning Centre. This position is active during the Summer semester.
Position Requirements
The Learning Centre Assistant will assist the ELC Learning Centre Coordinator and ESL Learning Centre instructors to deliver language-learning support to ESL learners.
The Assistant will:
- Help students to understand assignments
- Help students to understand English language features and Canadian culture
- Demonstrate effective strategies for studying in an academic environment
- Work one-to-one contact with students
- Direct students to appropriate resources (including on-campus services and educational websites)
- Lead small groups of students in guided conversation practice
- Assist the Learning Centre Coordinator with light administrative duties such as filing, photocopying, maintaining the ELC website
- Help with materials maintenance, inventory, and compiling statistics
