Description
The Let's Talk Science EDIA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility_ Coordinator organized and delivered at least two full-day STEM learning events to remote Vancouver Island schools as part of the national Let's Talk Science (LTS) program to promote interest in science, technology, engineering and math. They also worked with the VIU LTS Site Coordinator to support ongoing LTS programs at VIU and promote collaboration with other LTS university sites.
Position Overview
An LTS EDIA coordinator is responsible for supporting remote community Let's Talk Science programs at VIU, recruiting volunteers and educators; training and supporting volunteers; maintaining site records including finances; acquiring additional funding; writing reports; and especially planning outreach to rural and remote communities; and has the opportunity to attend one fully funded Let's Talk Science conference annually. Time Commitment: 6.5 hrs/week on average Work Term: November 2023 - October 2024 (flexible).
Position Requirements
The ideal candidate:
- is registered at VIU in a Faculty of Science and Technology program
- has a passion for science, and science outreach and education
- has strong oral and written communication skills
- has strong leadership skills
- has outstanding interpersonal skills
- has excellent planning and organizational skills
- has strong experience with Internet applications and Microsoft Office Suite
- is willing to travel for remote events and Let's Talk Science conferences (expenses covered by LTS)
