Position Overview

As a Leadership Member of the Student Leadership Circle (SLC), an individual is expected to actively participate in various workshops designed to enhance their leadership abilities. These workshops are aimed at not only improving leadership skills but also at fostering a strong sense of teamwork among participants. Additionally, the role involves working on developing professional competencies that are in line with the Graduate Attributes outlined by the Vancouver Island University (VIU). The position requires a commitment to personal growth and the ability to collaborate effectively with peers. Leadership Members are also expected to contribute to the SLC community by sharing their experiences, supporting fellow members, and applying the skills learned to make a positive impact within the university setting and beyond.

Position Requirements

  • Completion of introductory leadership training or workshop,
  • Proficiency in collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Slack),
  • Experience with project management software (e.g., Trello, Asana),
  • Understanding of group dynamics and team facilitation techniques,
  • Knowledge of effective communication strategies,
  • Familiarity with conflict resolution and negotiation tactics,
  • Ability to plan and execute events or workshops,
  • Experience in public speaking and presentation skills,
  • Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles,
  • Capacity to set goals and track progress of self and team,
  • Experience in peer mentoring or coaching.
