Research Peer Mentors either self-identified or were identified by an instructor as students with strong research and communication skills. They supported research skill development and learning in junior peers.

Position Overview

Peer Mentors either self-identify or are identified by an instructor as students with strong research and communication skills. They support research skill development and learning in junior peers.

Mentors primarily support research skill development by hosting weekly content-driven sessions for interested students. Sessions will align with the research strengths of the individual mentor. Mentor training is provided at the beginning of the semester, and brief pre and post-session check-ins with the coordinator are expected.

Sessions may include discussing a research question, identifying where to get information, research oriented writing and editing for reports/funding, basic statistics, public speaking, poster making, creating tables and graphs, interview or focus group practice, survey testing, and approaching a potential supervisor.

Position Requirements

  • The minimum time commitments for this position is 18 hours. These hours include 2 hours of training, 4 hours of pre- and post-session check-ins, 6 hours of session preparation, and 6 hours of session holding
