Student Members of VIU's Research Ethics Board contribute to the review of all proposals for research with human participants at the university. This involves reviewing applications for ethical compliance with the national guidelines, providing written summaries of any required revisions, and attending monthly meetings of the full-board to discuss the studies under review.

Position Requirements

VIU is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in research involving human participants. The VIU Research Ethics Board (REB) supports this goal by educating the VIU community and by ensuring that research conducted under the aegis of VIU complies with the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2014).

The REB is comprised of members of VIU's faculty, its student body, and the surrounding community. The Board is responsible for reviewing upwards of 150 applications every year. Student Members of VIU's Research Ethics Board contribute to the review of all proposals for research with human participants at the university.

Their contribution involves:

  • Reviewing applications for ethical compliance with the national guidelines
  • Providing written summaries of any required revisions
  • Attending monthly meetings of the full-board to discuss the studies under review
