Meal Plans

Your Meal Plan    It’s fast, convenient and saves you money.

When you purchase a Student Value Meal Plan funds are added to your Student Card which operates on a declining balance system. Every time a purchase is made, the amount is subtracted from your balance. You can use your activated Student Card in either cafeteria located in Buildings 185 and 300.

You must be a student enrolled at VIU living on or off campus.

You do not pay tax on meals however, candy, chips, ice cream and soft drinks purchased separately from a meal do not qualify for the tax savings.

The Upper Cafeteria is open Monday – Friday from 7:30-7:00 pm, Saturdays 11 am – 3 pm throughout the academic year.  Closed on Statutory holidays.

The Lower Cafeteria is open Monday – Friday from 7:30-2:00 pm, September to mid-June.  Closed on weekends and Statutory holidays.

Terms and Conditions

Student Value Meal Plans are governed by the following terms and conditions and by Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) policies and procedures.

VIU is not liable for any loss, inconvenience to you or to others, or any damages (including special, indirect or consequential) or expenses of any kind that may result from the use or misuse of the student ID card.

You agree to indemnify, hold harmless and release the VIU from any and all claims for losses, damages, injury, fees, expenses, charges or debts made by any party against the University arising out of the use or misuse of the student ID card, including any meal plan claims related to tax benefits and tax savings.

By depositing funds into your meal plan or dining dollars card accounts, you agree to and accept all of these terms and conditions.

  • You are the only person entitled to use your card
  • The activated Student ID Card is the only method of payment accepted for meal plan purchases
  • All meal purchases are final once a transaction is approved
  • Cash-back transactions are not permitted and your Student ID card does not provide credit
  • Student Value Meal and Dining Dollar plans are non-transferable
  • Meal Plans are non-refundable
  • Dining Dollars will not be available for purchase as of April 1, 2020.

Student Value Meal Plans

Purchases made with a Student Value Meal Plan are GST exempt with the exception of prepackaged Food Items. 

Student Value Meal Plans have expiry dates, set as per the academic schedule, that are identified when you select your plan at the time of purchase and below.
