Your Meal Plan: It’s fast, convenient and saves you money

When you purchase a Student Value Meal Plan, funds are added to your Student Card. Every time a purchase is made the amount is subtracted from your balance. You can use your activated Student Card in the Cafeteria, located in Buildings 185 and 300.

This Plan reduces the GST on allowable items, therefore provides a savings of 5%.

You must be a student enrolled at VIU living on or off-campus.

You do not pay tax on meals; however, candy, chips, ice cream and soft drinks purchased separately from a meal do not qualify for the tax savings.  Please refer to the CRA rules.

There are NO refunds when your Plan expires.

Terms and Conditions

Student Value Meal Plans are governed by the following terms and conditions and by Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) policies and procedures.

VIU is not liable for any loss.  Any damages (including special, indirect or consequential) or expenses of any kind that may result from the use or misuse of the student ID card.

You agree to indemnify, hold harmless and release the VIU from all claims for losses, damages, injury, fees, expenses, charges or debts made by any party against the University arising out of the use or misuse of the student ID card, including any meal plan claims related to tax benefits and tax savings.

By depositing funds into your meal plan account, you agree to and accept all of these terms and conditions.

  • You are the only person entitled to use your card
  • The activated Student ID Card is the only method of payment accepted for meal plan purchases
  • All meal purchases are final once a transaction is approved
  • Cash-back transactions are not permitted, and your Student ID card does not provide credit
  • Meal Plans are non-refundable

Student Value Meal Plans

Purchases made with a Student Value Meal Plan are GST exempt except prepackaged Food Items. 

Student Value Meal Plans have expiry dates, set as per the academic schedule, that are identified when you select your Plan at the time of purchase and below.
