Position Overview
The Event Planner for the Student Leadership Circle (SLC) is responsible for the management and execution of events that are designed to foster leadership and community among students. This role requires strong organizational skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Event Planner is expected to plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of event organization, from initial concept to final execution, ensuring each event aligns with the values and Graduate Attributes of Vancouver Island University (VIU). This includes budgeting, scheduling, coordinating with vendors, securing venues, and working with other team members. The Event Planner must also be adept at problem-solving and have excellent communication skills to effectively liaise with students, faculty, and external partners. The goal of the Event Planner is to create engaging and impactful events that enhance the student experience and promote the development of leadership skills.
Position Requirements
- Proven experience in event planning and management,
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills,
- Leadership and team management abilities,
- Proficiency in event management software (e.g., Eventbrite, Cvent),
- Knowledge of project management principles and tools (e.g., Trello, Asana),
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups,
- Understanding of budgeting and financial management for events,
- Creative problem-solving skills,
- Familiarity with social media platforms for event promotion and engagement (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter),
- Knowledge of vendor and venue selection processes,
- Ability to handle stress and remain calm under pressure,
- Time management skills to meet deadlines,
- Attention to detail for planning and execution of events,
- Capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and new challenges,
- Experience with risk management and contingency planning.
