Residence Life is the comprehensive program that surrounds living on campus. The Academic Programs Assistant works to support student academic well-being through weekly and monthly programming.
Position Requirements
VIU Student Residences is for-profit organization that operates parallel to Vancouver Island University Nanaimo campus. With the core values of exceptional service, safe and healthy living and quality developmental experiences, VIU Residences works with community members, student leaders, and external organizations to create a supportive environment where young leaders can grow.
The Academic Programs Assistant works to support student academic well-being through weekly and monthly programming.
As the Academic Programs Assistant, this work op student is expected to:
- Plan and execute a CommuniTree Connections event (Thursdays at 7 PM) at least once per month
- Plan and execute a minimum of one additional study session/workshop each per week
- Collaborate with campus partners such as Peer Supported Learning (PSL), SOS and the VIU Library
- Encourage resident participation in academic events and tutoring services
- Provide PSL and SOS with recommendations of students who could take on academic support roles
