Valedictorian Selection Process

Interested in being a 2026 valedictorian?

Graduating students can apply for the role of 2026 valedictorian – a meaningful opportunity to represent your graduating class at convocation. The valedictorian delivers a short speech that reflects on the student experience and celebrates the achievements, challenges and spirit of VIU students. If this sounds like something you’d enjoy – or if others have encouraged you to consider it – we’d love for you to apply.

To be considered, please complete the Valedictorian Nomination Form by Friday, March 13, 2026.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be graduating in the 2025–26 academic year and participating in the 2026 convocation.
  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Demonstrate leadership, community involvement and strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

Applications will be reviewed by your Dean’s Office, and each faculty will recommend one candidate for final consideration. If you have any questions about the process, please contact us at valedictorian@viu.ca. We’re happy to help. We look forward to receiving your submissions and celebrating your achievements at convocation.
