VIU students who are struggling because of an unexpected, unplanned situation or expense may be eligible to receive an emergency bursary.
To be considered for this funding, you need to complete the application below.
Your personal information is collected under the authority of Section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA). This information will be used for the purpose of evaluating your eligibility for awards and bursaries at VIU. Questions about the collection of this information may be directed by email to FinancialAidInfo@viu.ca.
Eligibility criteria:
- Full-time or part-time currently enrolled students
- Reserved for students successfully progressing through their program with a 2.0 GPA or higher
- Emergency funding is not typically given out in the first 4 weeks of someone's first semester.
- VIU may contact your current semester professors to ensure you are attending and progressing in your courses.
- Funding is not guaranteed. Applications are reviewed and assessed as quickly as possible (usually within 7-10 business days). Additional questions may be asked to confirm your eligibility.
- The amount of emergency funding you may receive will vary depending on how much funding is available, and your personal circumstances. If you receive a bursary, it is a one-time only payment. You typically cannot receive more than one emergency bursary in an academic year. Any funds received do NOT need to be repaid.
