Current Students

The MBA Internship component is an opportunity for students to gain experience in a professional work environment and apply their academic learning in the field. Completing an internship is a mandatory part of the program and participating is an excellent opportunity to see the diversity of positions that exist in the field.

MBA Internship

A networking approach to internship search is highly recommended as discussed throughout internship planning courses.  Current MBA students can search for internship postings on the Experience Hub Work-Integrated Learning portal.

Students must complete the internship planning courses as well as all academic courses before beginning an internship.

International students must ensure that they obtain an appropriate internship work permit. We highly recommend that all International students make an appointment to meet with a VIU immigration counsellor to review their immigration documents as soon as you begin the program. You can find information regarding these services at International Education Student Advising.

All internship students are required to complete a Work Term Record in the Experience Hub portal. The Work Term Record is used to ensure that the student, employer and the work integrated learning (WIL) faculty have a full understanding of the requirements, deliverables and time lines of the internship.

The student’s WIL faculty will review the Work Term Record to ensure that it meets all the requirements of the program. Students may not start their internship until a Work Term Record is entered into the Experience Hub and has been approved by their Work-Integrated Learning faculty.

During the internship, students are required to submit work term assignments on VIU Learn.

Students are responsible for arranging a midpoint site visit with their WIL faculty and internship supervisor at approximately week eight of the internship.

Upon completion of the internship, students submit a final work term assignment and ensure that the employer completes the online final evaluation in the Experience Hub portal.

Students use VIULearn to view course content, to upload assignments and receive feedback from their work-integrated learning faculty.

Students use the Experience Hub portal to book appointments with their WIL Faculty, register for events on our calendar, view internship postings and create a work term record.
