Kate Connolly

Practicum Counsellor

Bio

Hi there!

My name is Kate.

I’m currently a second-year graduate student in Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria. I’m also a graduate of Vancouver Island University, where I studied Psychology and Anthropology. My previous work and practicum experience in the mental health field has given me the opportunity to support people through a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship challenges, loneliness, self-criticism, and times of crisis. I aim to create a therapeutic relationship grounded in warmth, curiosity, and acceptance. My approach is person-centred and integrative, drawing on modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

Together, we can explore what’s happening, make sense of patterns that may be getting in the way, and develop a greater understanding of yourself and what matters to you. I’m really interested in the ways our emotions, thoughts, relationships, and life experiences shape how we see ourselves and respond to the world around us. Counselling can offer an opportunity to slow down, notice these patterns with greater curiosity, and develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions. This can create space to explore what matters to you and what it might look like to move toward it, even when things feel uncertain or uncomfortable. My hope is that our work together leaves you with a greater sense of self-understanding, compassion, and choice.

A little about me: I’m a mom, a book lover, and an amateur chicken keeper. With gratitude, I work on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation and live on the traditional and unceded territory of the Stz’uminus First Nation.
