Culinary Arts Co-operative Education

The Culinary Arts Co-operative education program provides work term opportunities where students can apply their culinary skills in a professional work environment.

Applying for Opportunities

Current Culinary Arts co-op students can view active co-op job postings at CareerVIU Work-Integrated Learning. This resource contains the following:

  • Culinary Arts co-op job postings
  • The process for completing documentation required to confirm your co-op work term
  • Evaluation forms completed by the employer regarding culinary arts co-op students
  • Appointment system for meeting with the Culinary Arts co-op coordinator (Sharon Davidson)

All current Culinary Arts co-op students are registered and can access VIULearn. This resource contains the following information:

  • Resources to view and research available co-op opportunities
  • Employer lists and detailed information on potential co-op opportunities
  • Sample documents and material for co-op work search
  • Co-op dates and deadlines for all Culinary Arts co-op students.
  • All required procedures and paperwork for Cook 121/122 and Cook 221/221.

Before Your Co-op

Once you have a confirmed co-op position for the co-op work term, please ensure the following is completed:

  • Students need to log into CareerVIU Work-Integrated Learning and register your co-op work term. Your coordinator will process your work term opportunity for approval.
  • Once your work term has been approved, a letter will be sent to your employer regarding the upcoming co-op work term.
  • All paperwork required for your co-op work term is located in VIULearn under the section: Co-op work term Documents and Paperwork.

During Your Co-op

All students are required to complete the following by your co-op work term end date:

Please note: All forms and assignments are located in VIULearn.

  • Complete minimum of 300 hours of work experience and complete the Co-op Hours tracking sheet in D2L or submit a final pay stub documenting hours worked.
  • Complete your co-op assignment: Work term Report located in VIULearn.
  • Submit your ITA form directly to Josephine.Chong@viu.ca
  • A Student Evaluation completed by your employer
  • You will receive a completion record from your co-op coordinator (Sharon Davidson) when all requirements have been completed for your co-op work term.

The VIU Culinary Arts Certificate and Diploma program co-op work term dates:

  • Culinary Arts Certificate Program: June 21 to September 3
  • Culinary Arts Diploma Management Program: May 1 to September 3
