Vancouver Island University Student Health Clinic Agreement

VIU Student Health Clinic provides comprehensive holistic Primary Care services provided by Nurse Practitioners who can diagnose, consult, order and interpret tests, prescribe medication, and treat health conditions. The Clinic functions as a part of the VIU Health and Wellness Centre and works collaboratively with the Counsellors to build a comprehensive Care Team that will help you set your own health goals and take an active role in your health and wellbeing.

What Will We Do?

  • Provide quality and compassionate services in a caring, respectful, and supportive environment that is safe for both you and staff members.
  • Value human diversity in all its dimensions and commit to maintaining service environments which are equitable, diverse, and inclusive.
  • Keep your health information confidential and only share necessary information within your Care Team and to whom you have provided consent.

What You Need to Know?

We are not a walk-in clinic, nor do we offer after hours care. Urgent care can be accessed after hours at Medical Arts, NRGH Emergency Department or by calling 911.

  • We use an online platform called Pomelo which allows two-way confidential communication between the clinic and yourself, as well as provides the convenience to book appointments online with your Provider. A registration link will be sent to you via e-mail before your first appointment, if you have not received this, please notify staff.
  • Access to Clinic Services is only available to students who do not have a Primary Care Provider located between Comox Valley and Cowichan Valley.
  • Your Provider may work collaboratively with your VIU Counsellor and share information to ensure wrap-around care.
  • Currently VIU Clinic is staffed by 2 Nurse Practitioners, Erica Cambrey and Bryan Schultz. You will choose the Nurse Practitioner you would like to be most responsible for your care. You may see the other Nurse Practitioner for urgent issues, gender-preferred care or if your Provider is away. We ask you to see your chosen Nurse Practitioner as often as is possible.
  • Please note that once you are no longer a registered student of VIU, you will not be able to access the clinic; however, your records will be available to your next health care practitioner with the completion of a Consent to Release Medical Information form, which is initiated by you and your practitioner and sent to our clinic.
