The VIU Medical Clinic is not a walk-in clinic.  Appointments must be scheduled by calling 250.740.6620. The appointment line is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. We are not open on weekends or holidays.

Please Note: We are experiencing staffing challenges at the clinic.  As a result we are not accepting new patients at this time.  

If you are in need of a doctor immediately, please contact Medical Arts Centre Urgent Care Clinic at 778.766.5144 or Central Nanaimo Urgent & Primary Care Centre at 1.833.688.8722 to set up a same-day appointment.  See information below for other options.

Respiratory or COVID-19 symptoms

The Health and Wellness Centre does not have access to COVID-19 vaccines at this time. Register for a vaccine appointment at BC Government: COVID-19. If you are experiencing COVID-like or Respiratory symptoms then please disclose this information at the time of booking your VIU clinic appointment and if needed, a phone appointment will be arranged.

About the Student Health Clinic

The VIU Student Health Clinic is open to provide medical health care to students enrolled at Vancouver Island University. The Student Health Clinic aims to provide health care, education and preventive medicine.

The Student Health Clinic is staffed by Nurse Practitioner Bryan Schultz (on leave) and Nurse Practitioner Rebecca Eggers and supported by Medical Office Assistant (MOA) Mary.

Nurse Practitioners provide accessible, efficient, and effective health care that meets the highest standards of practice.

In British Columbia a Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a Registered Nurse with a master’s degree and advanced knowledge and skills who provides high quality health care. NPs are able to diagnose, consult, order and interpret tests, prescribe, and treat health conditions. They work independently and collaboratively and will provide VIU students with Primary Health Care using a team-based approach.

Please note we are not a walk in clinic. 

The VIU Student Health Clinic is a Primary Health Care Clinic run by Nurse Practitioners who provide comprehensive clinical care including the diagnosis and management of disease or illness, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting laboratory or diagnostic tests, and initiating referrals to specialists.

Supplies available at the Health and Wellness Centre

  • Safer sex supplies: internal and external condoms; lubricant (anonymously waiting room)
  • Fentanyl testing strips (anonymously waiting room)
  • STI, Hep C, rapid HIV testing information (anonymously waiting room)
  • Intramuscular Naloxone kits (please request at the front desk)
