Position Overview
The Outreach Coordinator for the Student Leadership Circle (SLC) plays a pivotal role in managing and leading events that are designed to foster leadership and community engagement among students. This individual is expected to possess strong communication and organizational skills to effectively coordinate these events, ensuring they run smoothly and achieve their intended outcomes. The coordinator must also demonstrate leadership abilities, as they will be guiding and motivating student participants. Their work should align with Vancouver Island University's (VIU) Graduate Attributes, which aim to prepare students with the skills and knowledge necessary for personal and professional success. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for planning, promoting, and executing various initiatives that encourage student involvement and leadership development, while also serving as a liaison between students, faculty, and external community partners. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals, and a commitment to enhancing the student experience at VIU.
Position Requirements
- Proven experience in event management,
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal,
- Proficiency in office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace),
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana),
- Leadership and team management experience,
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups,
- Knowledge of leadership theories and practices,
- Experience in facilitating workshops or training sessions,
- Understanding of student development theories,
- Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills,
- Time management and organizational skills,
- Experience with social media management and marketing,
- Ability to align activities with institutional goals and attributes,
- Knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods for events and programs.
