We offer Island Health’s Medical Terminology assessment in person at our Nanaimo campus.

Medical Terminology Assessment Overview

  • The assessment is comprised of 50 multiple-choice questions and takes 40 minutes to complete.
  • The minimum requirement to be successful in this assessment is 72% (36/50).
  • You will be provided with an official copy of your assessment score upon completion.
  • Students wishing to study should use Chabner's “The Language of Medicine” as all assessment questions are based on this text. 
  • ID is required.
  • Rewrites:
    • Can be booked after a one week waiting period.
    • Fee of $25.

Select 'Online and Written Exams' from Group menu, then select the appropriate Medical Terminology test from the Exam menu.

Successful completion of this assessment in no way guarantees employment. Results are not currently recognized by other employers.

Successful completion of this assessment does not guarantee a place in a VIU program. Results are provided directly to VIU Registration. 

Successful assessment will be considered equivalent to OSME 002 for the purposes of fulfilling the pre-requisite for Health Sciences and Human Services PD&T programs. 

Current Island Health employees: Island Health pays fee (one assessment per employee per year). Valid IH ID card must be presented at the time of the assessment.

  • If no ID card presented, Applicant pays $25 fee.
  • Rewrites: Applicant pays $25 fee.

Prospective Island Health employees: Applicant pays $25 fee.

VIU students: Student pays $25 fee.
