Gemma Armstrong

(Gemma is on leave and will be returning July, 2019)

Hello and welcome. I’m thrilled to be a part of the counselling team at VIU, and I am honoured to be a visitor on Snuneymuxw territory. I am deeply committed to living well and supporting others to do the same. I admire students’ courage and resilience, which I feel privileged to witness every day in my work.

When you come for counselling, I aim to share a sense of curiosity, interest, and respect for the ways you relate to others, yourself, and the world. I strive to offer a safe space for you to express concerns and hopes without judgment. I collaborate with you to identify more healthful choices and to access your capacity for healing.

I earned my M.A. in Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria and am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I have completed Sensorimotor Psychotherapy level 1 and have an interest in Hakomi as well as other experiential approaches. I grew up near the Rockies and for me, connection with nature is vital. Some of the strengths I nurture in myself include authenticity, creativity, and love of learning. I look forward to connecting with you!
