Hello, my name is Joy. I was born and raised in Scotland but have called Canada home for most of my adult life. I have been a VIU student myself, first as an international student adapting to life in Canada and then as a domestic student too. I am in the final phase of a Masters in Counselling Psychology degree and am completing my practicum at VIU’s Health and Wellness Centre.

In working with you, I aim to create a warm, compassionate, and safe space in which you feel heard and validated. I believe in taking a holistic view of your mental health, meaning we will collaboratively explore the biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence your mental health. Counselling is an opportunity to process thoughts and emotions, connect with how your physical being is responding, and work towards integration and wholeness. Counselling sessions can also give you a set-apart time to make plans, set goals, and even celebrate strengths and wins. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, stress, or low self-worth, our collaborative work in counselling can help to reduce your suffering and grow in ways that make life feel more fulfilling.

I offer appointments on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
