Calculate your GPA

Grade Point Average

  • Students are assigned a letter grade for each course taken. Grade Scale: University, Academic, ABE Programs
  • Course credits vary.
  • Each letter grade carries a numerical grade point value as per the table below.
  • Grade point average is the sum total of course grade points, divided by the number of credits taken. The GPA is calculated on all courses attempted for credit.
    • Grade Point (GP) = credit value multiplied by numerical value of grade earned.
    • Grade Point Average (GPA) = total grade points earned divided by total credits attempted.
    • The GP for each course (as seen in your Student Record Course Enrollment History) is calculated by multiplying the number of course credits by the grade value.
    • The GPA (as seen at the top of each term in your Course Enrollment History) is the total grade points for all courses divided by total credits attempted.

Notes: Credits for courses with a GP of zero (F or UW) are included in the calculation. There is no GP or course credit to use in the calculation for courses with WDR or AUD.  There is no GP for courses with CR for grade.

Academic Concern and Academic Pause

The GPA for the academic year is calculated by total grade points for all courses taken over the year divided by total credits attempted over the year. For the purposes of Academic Concern and Academic Pause, this calculation includes courses taken from May 1 to April 30.

Note:  Do not add GPA from one semester to that of second semester and divide by two for the average as this will not be accurate if credit load differs between terms.
