Overview

The Cowichan Student Engagement Lead - Fun@VIU is a dynamic role focused on enhancing student life at Vancouver Island University (VIU) through the development and implementation of engaging activities and events. The individual in this position is responsible for creating a vibrant campus atmosphere by organizing events that encourage interaction and collaboration among students from various faculties. This role requires a creative and energetic personality who can effectively plan, coordinate, and execute events that cater to a diverse student body. The Student Engagement Lead is expected to work closely with other campus organizations and departments to ensure a cohesive and inclusive approach to student engagement. Additionally, the role involves developing leadership skills, as the lead will likely oversee a team of volunteers or student workers, and must be adept at managing resources and time effectively. The ultimate goal of the position is to foster a sense of community and belonging among students, making their time at VIU memorable and enjoyable.

Requirements

  • Experience in event planning and management,
  • Strong leadership and team management skills,
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Trello, Asana),
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff,
  • Knowledge of experiential learning and leadership development theories,
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities,
  • Experience with budget management and fundraising,
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital marketing strategies,
