Description

Student researchers work with the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute (MABRRI) on three projects initiated by previous work op students (lake monitoring, wetland mapping, and the Bioblitz at Milner Gardens).

Position Requirements

The primary responsibility in this position is to continue the development of a project titled "Amazing Places". This is part of a Canada-wide initiative to promote the nation's 16 biospheres.

You will be assisting the MABR's Marketing and Community Outreach Coordinator. The Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region (MABR) is a UNESCO-affiliated organization based at Vancouver Island University. The student will be involved in defining places and collecting data, then providing this information to the national team. The student will also be involved in a diversity of projects that increase the MABR?s visibility, capacity and impact, and will be working in an environment that welcomes and fosters new ideas and creative thinking.

You will develop transferable skills and gain experiences that will help you grow professionally. These competence-building activities will be integrated into this Work-Op experience:

  • Project planning and development
  • Grant writing
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Strategic planning
  • Program design

The ideal candidate is creative, organized, works well in teams and independently, and has a passion for community and organizational development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Project planning and design assistance
  • Grant writing assistance
  • Communications (email and in-person)
  • Marketing (social media and website)
  • Site visits in the region
