Position Requirements

Successful applicants will be working as research assistants for The Canadian Letters and Images Project, a national history project housed here at VIU. As part of the CLIP team they will be responsible for preparing archival materials such as letters, diaries, and photographs for the project website. The research assistant position covers all aspects of the project operation, from the point which the project receives the materials until they are made accessible to the public via the website. For team members this can include organizing incoming materials, digitization, transcribing materials, and uploading completed collections to the database. Duties could include as well external liaisons and publicity for the project.

The candidate will be responsible for weekly reorganization and control of the acid bath, solvent and darkroom areas plus the cleaning and maintenance of the printmaking presses, inks and fluids related to the printshop. Further responsibilities include assisting students with basic printmaking and storage area issues. Regular tidying of the Print studio are also expectations of this position.
