Assisted in organizing and executing engaging summer events for VIU community, fostering cross-faculty connections and enhancing student life; gained event management and teamwork skills.

Overview

As a Summer Volunteer for Fun@VIU, the individual is expected to play a key role in planning and carrying out a variety of events aimed at enriching the campus experience for students, faculty, and staff. The volunteer will work collaboratively with a team to brainstorm ideas, organize logistics, and execute events that promote interaction and camaraderie among different departments within the university. Duties may include setting up venues, coordinating with vendors, managing registrations, and ensuring that each event runs smoothly. The position provides an excellent opportunity to develop valuable skills in event management and teamwork, while also contributing to a vibrant and connected campus community. Volunteers are expected to be enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to creating a fun and inclusive environment for all participants.

Requirements

  • Experience in event planning and execution,
  • Strong organizational skills,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment,
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and marketing tools,
  • Basic knowledge of budget management for events,
  • Familiarity with VIU Graduate Attributes and experiential leadership development,
  • Ability to engage and motivate peers,
  • Creative thinking for event ideas and problem-solving,
  • Flexibility to work during event times, which may include evenings and weekends,
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations for event management,
  • Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously,
  • Volunteer management experience is a plus.
