Fall Forestry Greenhouse Technician Assistant - Horticulture Seedling Management

Description

The Forestry Greenhouse Technology Assistant position involves the watering and measuring of forestry seedlings. It requires that the student make sure that the automated systems are deployed as per schedule.

Position Requirements

The Forestry greenhouse is located at the G.R. Paine Horticulture Training Centre. 

The student will:

  • Water and fertilize the forest seedlings
  • When a predetermined weight is reached, they will weigh marked forestry growing-blocks on a daily basis
  • Once the targeted weight is reached, the student will turn on the fertilizer injector and the water boom
  • Mix fertilizer as needed
  • Check the boom periodically to make sure it is running correctly
  • Once blocks are dripping, they will stop watering.

The student will also need to perform weeding and check for seedling health as needed. Periodically the student will use a ruler to measure and record the height of seedlings. The student will need to check that the automatic black out system has deployed or detracted as programmed. Note this position includes weekend work.
