Indigenous Programs Assistant - Student Residence

Description

The Indigenous Programs Assistant enhanced the residents' experience by hosting events and delivering services that build residents' engagement with their peers, develop resiliency, and enrich their co-curricular experience.

Position Overview

As the Program Leader, this work-op student is expected to plan and execute a CommuniTree Connections event (Thursdays at 7 PM) at least once per month, plan and execute a minimum of one additional activity each month, provide an educational program or service such as hosting a round circle, smudging, teaching about cultural protocols, or creating art, host the Indigenous Student Mixer during ResTide Storm the Shore Residences Orientation Program, and collaborate with campus partners such as Services for Aboriginal Students, Office of Aboriginal Education and Engagement, Community Cousins, and Elders-in-Residence.

Program Leaders (PLs) are an integral part of Residence Life. The Program Leaders enhance the residents’ experience by hosting events and delivering services that build residents’ engagement with their peers, develop resiliency, and enrich their co-curricular experience.

By fostering community spirit through the organization of social and educational events, PLs are highly visible and engaging members of the residence community.

Position Requirements

Required:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work remotely

  • Participation or understanding of training programs
  • Understanding of community building principles
