Tandem Challenge Participant - Fun@VIU

Description

The VIU Games Planning Team contributes to the core planning, organizing, and implementation of the annual VIU Games event on campus.  The Team engages and connects students across various faculties through the multi-sport event held with the intent to "Compete with Purpose".

Position Requirements

The Fun@ VIU Committee is a program of the Office of Co-Curricular Engagement and Learning.  It is student-driven, Faculty and Staff supported.  The purpose of the Fun@ VIU Committee is to build opportunities for student engagement in the community.  Fun@ VIU creates initiatives around experiential leadership development by building upon the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Graduate Attributes.

The VIU Games is an annual event held at Vancouver Island University where teams of 8 - 10 members are formed from clubs, faculties, and VIU communities in an integrated competition of spirit, faculty pride, and sportsmanship.  Members of each team compete in multiple events throughout the entire one-day VIU Games in Sport, Team Spirit, and Mystery Competitions.  The winning team will have their name engraved on the VIU Game’s “Chassles Cup”.

The purpose of the VIU Games is to unite VIU’s campus through a common thread of competitive spirit.  Chosen as the tagline for the VIU Games, “Compete with Purpose” challenges competitors to think and compete further than the goal of victory.  The aim is to strive towards enriching the meaning of the student experience at VIU by building relationships campus-wide. 

Participants have a united, common goal - making an impact in community by expanding VIU’s graduate attributes of Collaboration, and Capacity to Engage in Respectful Relationships.

The VIU Games Planning Team is responsible for:

  • Creating the core structure of the event
  • Developing challenges and rules
  • Recruiting student competitors and volunteers
  • Implementing the event within a designated timeline and budget

The VIU Games Planning Team is led by the Fun@ VIU Chair team and Office of Co-Curricular Engagement and Learning staff.  Members of this team may be allocated into specifically focused roles.

Graduate Attributes Associated

Students in this position will gain skills in creative thinking, collaboration, active learning, capacity to engage in respectful relationships, foundations for lifelong learning.
