How to Add an Internship to Your Academic Experience

How to Add an Internship

Apply Your Learning Beyond the Classroom

Enrolling in an internship at Vancouver Island University is easy, and it comes with many benefits. Students who enrol in internships are more likely to be employed following graduation and more likely to work in their field of study. Students who don’t have a mandatory experiential learning component in their program can register for the INTP 300 course to prepare themselves for their working semester.

Offered by the Centre for Experiential Learning, INTP 300 is an asynchronous online general internship preparation course that runs throughout the year and helps  prepare students to pursue an internship relevant to their program of study. Modules covered will include resumes/cover letters, job search strategies, interview prep, and more! This course is a prerequisite for ITRN 303, which allows students to add a general internship to their studies, which provides practical experience and employer connections relevant to their field of study while receiving academic credits.

INTP 300 is a great fit for students that do not have a built-in internship or work-integrated learning (WIL) component in their program, or for those upper-year students who may have taken a break from their studies and would benefit from seeing the real-world application of the learnings they have received from their program through an internship.

This online asynchronous course is to be completed at the students pace within 16 weeks of the course start date. With a rolling intake throughout the year, students can enroll in this course at any time during the school year. There will also be opportunities for in-person connection, as this course will also involve some participation in career-related events, such as career fairs and workshops, that take place at VIU.

Interested students can email the CEL to begin the enrollment process
