VIEW Gallery Assistant

Description

The VIEW GALLERY is looking for students to work closely with the gallery curator/coordinator to attend to the needs of the Gallery. 

Position Overview

The successful candidates' duties will include some or all of the following:

  • Gallery front desk reception (this involves answering visitors question and possibly providing gallery tours)
  • Help with installation and de-installation of exhibitions
  • Help with marketing and organizing of Gallery events
  • Help maintain and upload new content to the gallery website including recoding exhibitions in VR
  • Help launch and manage a relevant and vibrant social media presence
  • Help in the continuing digitization and uploading of the VIU's art collection to the collection database

This exciting opportunity will help the successful applicant gain valuable real-world experience that will aid in their future employment opportunities.

Position Requirements

The successful candidate(s) will:

  • be self-reliant and motivated
  • have excellent oral and written (English) communication skills
  • possess excellent organizational skills
  • be familiar with MS word, excel, and power point
  • be familiar with a spectrum of social media platforms and trends
  • be familiar with Adobe Creative suite especially Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • general database management experience would also be an asset.
